Australia's next NFL superstar0:49
Louis Hedley is causing a sensation in the US. The Aussie has just signed for the University of Miami but it's not just his punting skills that are gaining attention. His muscular and tattooed body is causing a viral sensation.
NFL superstar Odell Beckham Junior has been traded to the Cleveland Browns in a trade bombshell that’s rocked the NFL.
The Giants traded their star receiver to the Browns in exchange for a series of draft picks, first reported by the NFL Network.
ESPN reports the deal will see Beckham head to the perennial NFL strugglers in exchange for the Browns’ No. 1 pick at the 2019 Draft (the No. 17 overall selection) and a third round pick as well as Jabril Peppers.
Here are the trade terms: Giants recieve a first-round pick in 2019 (No. 17 overall), the Browns' second third-round pick this year and S Jabril Peppers, source tells ESPN. Browns get Odell Beckham Jr.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 13, 2019
The deal is conditional on both players passing physicals, according to Associated Press.
At the NFL Scouting Combine last month, Giants general manager Dave Gettleman repeated the team had no plans to trade Beckham, as he had in January.
“We didn’t sign Odell to trade him,” he said then, according to The New York Post.
“That’s all I need to say about that.”
The Giants had just signed Beckham to a five-year contract extension in August worth $US95 million with $65 million guaranteed — the biggest contract ever signed by a receiver.
With the Browns, Beckham will be reunited with receiver Jarvis Landry, a teammate at LSU. He’ll also give quarterback Baker Mayfield an elite target, and his arrival could vault the Browns, who went 7-8-1 last season after not winning a game in 2017, into legitimate championship contenders.
Rumours of a possible deal have swirled for weeks, with several Browns players teasing a major move by Cleveland general manager John Dorsey on social media.
Dorsey pulled it off, bringing a major star to accelerate his attempt to rebuild the Browns into consistent winners. Cleveland hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2002.
The trade is the second major one involving a star wide receiver in four days as the Pittsburgh Steelers recently sent Antonio Brown to the Oakland Raiders.
While Beckham is immensely talented, there is some baggage as he can be temperamental and difficult. He also comes off an injury-plagued year.
He played five seasons in New York, making the Pro Bowl in his first three. He was the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014.
The trade bombshell has rocked the NFL.
